Tara Trudel is a versatile songwriter, composer, and music producer based in Los Angeles. She is the composer for the upcoming feature film, BASIC, from writer/director Chelsea Devantez and Marc Platt Productions. BASIC stars Ashley Park, Leighton Meester, Taylor John Smith, Taylor John Smith, Nelson Franklin, Kandy Muse, Ashley Nicole Black, Kenzie Elizabeth, Amber Ruffin, Jon Gabrus, and Georgia Mishak, and will have its world premiere at SXSW 2026.
Tara’s composing work has also been seen in SXSW’s Amazon Prime Short Film Festival, Sony’s Voces Nuevas, and Vulture’s Best Comedy Shorts Of The Year. Her score for the short film version of BASIC won Best Score at the LA Film Awards and the Festigious International Film Festival. Other credits include award-winning short films including UNO POR UNO: THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS, DREAMER, and LOCO (upcoming). She was also previously a Music Director and Songwriter for the Second City National Touring Company.
Tara also works frequently in children’s music. She’s written theme songs for 13 children’s books, including Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s NYTimes bestselling UNI THE UNICORN. As a teaching artist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Tara performed her students’ original composition with Yo-Yo Ma. She has also appeared as a featured artist in the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Smart Start early childhood program app. Her debut children’s album, FRACTURED: FAIRY TALES REMIXED has been performed in a theatrical version at the Matthews Playhouse.
